Fisherman pinned by rock at beach
A FISHERMAN is recovering in hospital after he slipped and was pinned by a large rock at Sandy Bay.
Firefighters were called to Nutgrove Beach about 6.30pm on Thursday night to assist paramedics with rescuing the man, aged in his late 40s.
“The man was fishing off the rocks when he slipped and a large rock had pinned his right arm,” Tasmania Fire Service Acting Station Officer Adam Salter said. “There was no danger of the man drowning as he was far enough away from the waters edge, however it took TFS crews 30 minutes to free the man using mini airbags.”
Firefighters, police and paramedics then transported the man up a steep rocky incline to a waiting ambulance.
He was last night in a stable condition at the Royal Hobart Hospital.
