Doran eager to bring red-ball form to T20s

- RYAN ROSENDALE

HOBART Hurricanes recruit Jake Doran hopes that a bigger focus on white-ball cricket this offseason will see him thrive in BBL|08.

Having made the move to Tasmania in 2015, the 21-year-old produced his best season to date for the Tigers in last year’s Sheffield Shield, finishing as the fifthhighest run-scorer with 756 runs at an average of 44.5.

And while his form with the red-ball game has grown, Doran’s limited experience in the Twenty20 format with the Sydney Thunder will see him lean on the Hurricanes’ older group throughout the tournament.

“I haven’t had a great exposure to T20 cricket yet so I’m really looking forward to that opportunity and for me it’s about putting runs on the board no matter what format I’m playing in,” he said.

“[That maturity] is why the Hurricanes are up there with one of the most experienced teams in the competition. We’ve got Matthew Wade, Tim Paine, George Bailey and these types of guys that have played a lot of T20 cricket so I’m looking forward to gaining as much experience from them and seeing where I can better myself as well.”

After falling to the Adelaide Strikers by 25 runs in last year’s Big Bash final, the Hurricanes will be hoping the addition of Doran and experienced head Johan Botha, along with the development of D’Arcy Short and Ben McDermott, will have them going one step further when this year’s competition starts on December 19.

The Hurricanes also announced the re-signing of Tassal as their principal partner until 2021.
