WRIGHT WAY TO PLAY
COLLINGWOOD Magpies Super Netball coach Rob Wright took a number of aspiring young netballers through their paces in Scottsdale and Hobart this week at school holiday clinics.
The newly appointed Magpies coach is relishing his role ahead of the upcoming season.
“It’s fantastic, obviously I love coaching,” Wright said. “And to be involved in such a fantastic club, it’s an amazing opportunity.”
Wright was all compliments for the Magpies’ training hub, saying “there’s no place like it in Australia for netball”.
“We want to be the very best and it gives us the opportunity to be the best. We’ve got everything here,” he said. “The beautiful thing about this comp is it truly is the best comp in the world so you take every opportunity you get whether that be your facilities or the support of those around you.”
Wright was excited to be in the state with newly signed Magpies player Gabi Sinclair and grateful for the opportunity the partnership with the Magpies and Tasmania provides.
“The partnership with Tasmania is fantastic,” he said. “It just gives us an opportunity to come down and do these clinics and get out and about.
“It all begins at grassroots, and with the Australian Netball League pathway anything is possible.”
Wright hoped all clinic attendees were able to take something away from the sessions but highlighted the importance of enjoying the game and working hard.
“Everyone has talent but it’s about working hard, fun and hard work,” he said.
“These girls at these clinics, we hope to see some of them as the next ANL player, training partner, Super netballer and even Diamond.”
It’s been a long time since Tasmania had a Diamond; the last representative was Natasha Chokljat who made the Australian squad in 2002. “It would be nice if we could play a little part in turning out the next one,” Wright said.
