Choir tunes up for a summer of cricket
GOT ’em yes!
In what could be the summer’s best opening partnership, Cricket Australia has teamed up with the Australian Girls Choir.
The choir — also known as the Qantas Choir — will perform at six Tests including the Fourth Test against India at the SCG in January.
Aussie quicks Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood met some of the girls at the SCG.
“It was great to meet some of the girls and have a chat to them about the coming season,” Cummins, 25, said.
“The Australian Girls Choir is known to most Australians through their I Still Call Australia Home for Qantas and I’m looking forward to hearing them sing the National Anthem.
“It’s an amazing feeling standing in the middle of Australia’s biggest stadiums before each Test and lining up as the National Anthem is played.
“It makes you realise how lucky we are to represent our country.”
In all, more than 300 girls will perform over the summer which includes singing from the rooftops at Adelaide Oval and Perth Stadium.
Nicole Muir AM, CEO of the Australian Girls Choir, said the girls had been rehearsing weekly.
“The girls absolutely love it … imagine Boxing Day in Melbourne, singing in front of a chockablock stadium. It’s such a wonderful experience for them,” she said.
The partnership is also a healthy shot in the arm in Cricket Australia’s quest to reengage with the public.
CA executive general manager for fan engagement Andrew Everard said: “You can’t get anything more iconic than Peter Allen’s I Still Call Australia Home.”
