Brighton grabs thriller to upset Glenorchy Rodman

BRIGHTON caused the upset of the season when it defeated reigning premier Glenorchy Rodman on its home turf by one shot in Bowls Tasmania South’s Premier Division on Saturday.

A team effort from Grant Wakefield’s rink easily accounted for Tony Vince by 10 shots and Greg Fehlberg was in terrific form to defeat Josh Baker by one shot. After being down eight shots after eight ends, Mick Daniels fought back against Luke Turner to force a thrilling draw. Cam Tegg was the only winner for Glenorchy Rodman, defeating Rick Limbrick by 10 shots.

Kingboroug­h jumped to the top of the leaderboar­d with a 28-shot rout of Buckingham.

With Brent Forsyth in top form, Will Coad thrashed Darren Beattie by 23 shots. Jarod Long was outstandin­g in defeating Michael Taylor by 10.

Jeannette Lane played very well for Taylor in only her second Premier Division game for the season. Jason Fowler came from behind to beat Isaac Maughan by one shot on the last end of the game. Alvin Cooke maintained his great start to the season for Buckingham, winning his sixth game for the season in accounting for Ryan Guy by six shots.

Rosny Park surprised the more fancied Sandy Bay by eight shots. Connor Munnings defeated Josh Mabb by 13 shots and Peter Bannister beat Andrew Norris by one shot.

Sandy Bay won on the other two rinks. Bryce Guy finished in front of David Genford by four shots and Keghan Booth defeated Mick Sweeney by two.

Beltana consolidat­ed its position in the top four with a convincing 37-shot win over Howrah. Nick Courto defeated Morgan Williams by 19 shots, Shane Young beat Chris Chalker by 12 shots and Paul Williamson overcame John McKibben by 11. Howrah won on the other rink, with Dale Maundrill defeating Scott Summers by five shots.

New Norfolk was too good for North Hobart, winning by 69 shots. Mitch Banks defeated Ebro Jesenkovic by 24 shots, Barry Bone beat Ross Bannister by 18 shots, Kerry Hill finished 14 shots in front of John de Groot and David McLean beat Michael Rankin by 13.
