A MOTORCYCLIST and a driver will face court after they were allegedly detected travelling at high speeds in two separate incidents on the Huon Highway.

A 24-year-old Kaoota man is accused of travelling south towards Huonville at 180km/h in a 100km/h zone on a black Husqvarna motorcycle about 3.50pm on Sunday.

Tasmania Police Acting Inspector Ian Mathewson said the man was intercepted by police and would be summoned to attend court.

Later that day, police saw a green Mazda sedan travelling south on the Huon Highway approaching the Sandfly and Longley intersections about 8.40pm. The vehicle was allegedly detected travelling at 150km/h and then at a top speed of 195km/h.

Acting Inspector Mathewson said a 31-year-old Longley man would face court in relation to the alleged high-speed offence.

“The green Mazda 626 was clamped by police for a period of 28 days due to the speed in which the vehicle was caught travelling,” he said. “This vehicle passed a number of other motorists at the time and police would like to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the manner of driving.

“Police are pleading with motorists to abide by the signed speed limits and to drive to the weather conditions at all times.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Sergeant McCulloch on 131 444.
