Knifed mayor clings to life

A MAYOR is fighting for his life after being stabbed on stage by a convicted criminal during the finale of a charity event.

The man stabbed the Polish mayor in the heart and abdomen before shouting that he did it for political revenge. Gdansk Mayor Pawel Adamowicz grabbed his belly and collapsed in front of the audience at the “Lights to Heaven” fundraiser.

Mr Adamowicz underwent five hours of surgery, said Dr Tomasz Stefaniak, one of the doctors treating Mr Adamowicz.

The attacker was arrested and is under investigation.
