Moving in right direction

STUDENTS Marni Edmonds and Desmond Marcenko both agree that moving from high school to Hobart College has expanded their opportunities to explore a wide range of future pathways.

Marni has enjoyed the new experiences and diverse range of programs on offer at Hobart College.

“While I have always had a medical pathway in my sights and will begin studies for medicine at the University of Tasmania in 2019, my involvement in the college production and as lead vocalist and musician in the House Band in Year 11 was a turning point,” she said.

“It allowed me to grow as a performer, but more importantly gave me the push in confidence to join the Navy Reserves as a musician.

“I now have alternate pathway options open to me in both the Navy and Conservatorium of Music.”

Being nominated as a delegate for the National Schools Constitutional Convention in Year 12 to contribute in an open forum about Constitutional Law confirmed Desmond’s chosen pathway of study in Arts/Law.

In addition, the opportunity to be enthusiastically involved in the college debating group and follow his passion in writing fuelled his desire to continue to write poetry and perform “Slam Poetry’’ at local venues.

An accomplished author, Desmond immerses himself in a metaphor, stating that Hobart College is a “chrysalis state and I now emerge from the cocoon as a wellrounded and fully developed individual”.
