Dreaming of a lotta lotto

- AMINA McCAULEY

TASMANIANS will be looking for another division one winner in tomorrow night’s record-chasing $100 million Powerball jackpot.

In 2018, nine Tasmanian lottery players won prizes worth almost $36 million.

The man who won the most, and who still wishes to remain anonymous, claimed his massive $30 million prize at Sorell, five days after the September 20 Powerball draw.

Hobart city, Glenorchy and Launceston were the state’s hot spots, each postcode selling two division one winning entries last year.

Tatts spokeswoman Bron- wyn Spencer said her “favourite” winner was a woman from Claremont who couldn’t stop laughing when she heard the news she was nearly a million dollars richer.

“I’m speechless. I just won nearly a million dollars! I’m so happy! I can’t talk. I’ve just gone crazy. This is absolutely perfect timing. This is something you think will never happen to you!” she said after picking up a $986,270 TattsLotto prize last March.

Another division one winner was a woman from West Launceston.

“I’m shocked. Here I am thinking I’ve just been about to lay-by a new mattress and do I have the money and now we have. I’m just so shocked,” she said after winning $990,953.99 in TattsLotto in January 2018.

Tickets for tomorrow’s draw are selling fast, and Salamanca Newsagency is preparing for a rush on tickets.

“As of today we expect to be quite busy,” Debbie Ling, from the newsagency, said.

Tomorrow’s draw is the equal largest prize offered in the game’s 23-year history, Powerball spokeswoman Lauren Cooney said.

“If one single entry takes home the entire $100 million jackpot … it would be the biggest Australian lottery prize ever won,” she said.

Two winners shared a $100 million jackpot in August.
