Now a women’s touch
TASMANIA’S Men’s Shed Association has attracted a well-known face to advocate for the growing Men’s Shed movement.
Clarence Alderman and former WIN newsreader Wendy Kennedy says she can’t wait to jump into her role as the association’s new executive officer.
“This role complements my other community work and I am really looking forward to getting on the road and visiting sheds and meeting our members,” Ms Kennedy said.
“I’ve been concerned about social isolation for many Tasmanians, especially in regional areas, for some time, and sheds play a huge role in providing men and women community connection.
“Each shed has a story to tell, not only about the fine work that is created, but the way the shedders pass on their skill sets to many — including schoolchildren of all ages.”
Men’s Shed Association president Michael Dennis said Ms Kennedy would be an asset to the shed movement.
“As a media personality, ambassador, fundraiser, board member and supporter of many organisations, Wendy’s commitment to community work, in particular social inclusion, will certainly assist TMSA and its member sheds well into the future,” he said.
The association was formed in 2009 and there are 55 member sheds across the state.
