AN elite field of competitors will tee off at Riverside Golf Club in the 2019 Tasmanian Junior Masters tomorrow over 72 holes.

Of the 43 entries received, 27 are from states other than Tasmania, the largest contingent (nine) from Queensland.

Key Queenslanders include Will Martell from Pelican Waters, Jordan Rooke from Wantima and Jordan Hampson from Hills International.

Other leading mainland contenders include Nathan Page from Victoria, South Australia’s Jimmy Luo and Joshuaa Robards from NSW.

Local hopefuls include Prospect Vale Golf Club’s Ronan Filgate, North West Bay’s Oscar Burrell and Stanley’s Jack Lakin.

The event also sees girls competing alongside the boys for the State Girls’ Amateur Championship. Entries for the event have increased and spectators can expect to see a high level of competition.

Hallie Meaburn, 15, from the Royal Hobart Golf Club, is favourite to take out the girls’ division. She face strong opposition from Tasmania Golf Club’s Mackenzie Wilson and NSW’s Brielle Mapanao. THE Golf SA Junior Masters was conducted last week at the Royal Adelaide Golf Club with several Tasmanians competing.

Ronan Filgate, 17, from the Prospect Vale Golf Club, was the best placed of the two boys’ representatives taking part in the Golf Australia order of merit event. Filgate finished eighth in the championship which was reduced to 54 holes because of soaring temperatures. Filgate had rounds of 72, 70 and 76 for a total of 218.

Oscar Burrell from North West Bay Golf Club placed equal 31st with scores of 76, 74 and 81, a total of 231.

Tasmania Golf Club’s Mackenzie Wilson was the only Tasmanian female to participate in the girls’ division.

Wilson finished equal 22nd overall with scores of 82, 80 and 80, a total of 242.

Conor Whitelock from Queensland won the boys’ championship by 11 strokes with a 12-under-par total of 204 from West Australian Zane Lewis.
