Nine-shot win helps Bucks grab second

IN a round affected by extreme weather, Buckingham consolidat­ed second position on the ladder and pushed Kingboroug­h out of the four with a hard-fought nine-shot win in Bowls Tasmania South Women’s Division One Pennant on Thursday.

Jeannette Lane was too good for Frances Phillips winning by 18 shots.

June Guy trailed Greta Murray by four shots at the lunch break but levelled the scores after 12 ends and went on to win convincing­ly by 15 shots.

Claremont defeated Glenorchy Rodman by 10 shots. Gaye Coleman started strongly against Debbie Stearnes and raced to an 18-shot lead before Stearnes could score. The game was even after that with Coleman winning by 15 shots. With Joy Voss absent, Jan McPherson took over as skip and played well.

The Sorell versus Rosny Park and Brighton versus Sandy Bay games were washed out, while the Howrah versus Dover RSL game did not proceed because of the Huon fires. THE second two rounds of Bowls Tasmania’s Statewide Seniors (Over-60s) Challenge involving representa­tive men’s and women’s teams from Launceston, the North-West Coast and Hobart were played at Trevallyn Bowls Club on Tuesday, with honours taken by Bowls North finishing with four wins on the day.

In the morning men’s games, North-West defeated North 1 by 25 shots while North 2 surprised South winning by 11. North-West made it two wins for the day in the afternoon game defeating North 2 by eight shots while North 1 had a narrow two shot win over South.

In the morning’s women’s games, North 1 defeated North West by 16 shots and South scraped in against North 2 by one shot. North-West defeated North 2 by two shots while North 1 was far too strong for South winning by 23 shots.
