Festival to bring tasty relief

- JAMES KITTO

A TASTE of the Huon organisers are hoping a big crowd at this year’s event will help provide some needed relief to bushfire-affected communities in the area.

In its 27th year, the two-day festival is expected to draw more than 20,000 people to the showcase of local food, wine, cider and entertainment at the Ranelagh Showgrounds.

A Taste of the Huon committee president Rosemary Bennett said the event was growing year on year and continuing to draw tourists to the Huon Valley.

She said she hoped the volunteer-run event would help re-energise struggling businesses after the recent Huon Valley bushfires.

“It’s been a tough month for businesses in the region due to the recent fires and we hope that the Taste will help boost up their businesses once again,” she said.

“We encourage people to come down this year and check out the vast array of stalls and entertainment.”

Live entertainment at the event includes performances from The Voices Supergroup with Jason Singh from Taxiride, Dale Ryder from Boom Crash Opera and Choirboys frontman Mark Gable. Also appearing will be old-school rocker Russell Morris, Adele – The Tribute, and a Blues Brothers Revival Band. The Taste runs from March 10-11.
