A 14-YEAR-OLD girl charged in connection with the killing of Jarrod Leigh Turner has fronted court for the first time as the hunt continues for his shooter.

The 14-year-old, who was arrested late on Tuesday night, appeared in a closed court session yesterday afternoon charged with one count of being an accessory after the fact to murder. She did not apply for bail. Hours after the teenager was remanded in custody, a 29-year-old Moonah man who was assisting police with their investigation into the death of Mr Turner was released without charge.

Detective Inspector Doug Rossiter last night said the murder probe was “progressing as planned”.

“There are people who we believe were involved in this crime who detectives would like to speak to,” Inspector Rossiter said.

“Those people know who they are and are urged to come forward and contact police.”

Mr Turner’s body was discovered by a member of the public on the side of Colebrook Road, about 2km north of Richmond, shortly before 6am on Sunday morning.

Police later confirmed Mr Turner, 22, of Gagebrook, had been shot in the head.

It is not yet known why he was in the area or what sparked his killing but the Mercury understands it could be linked to a drug feud.

Crime Stoppers Tasmania chair David Daniels last night said the organisation had received 31 reports relating to the crime since Monday — 11 of which were submitted yesterday.

“If you know something that might assist Tasmanian Police to solve the murder of Jarrod Leigh Turner at Richmond on Sunday, please call Crime Stoppers now,” he said.
