Lagging on cans
Waiting for better ferry
A LETTER to Will Hodgman and hopeful of a reply this time (have written to Government and SeaLink without even an acknowledgment of correspondence, let alone any meaningful reply). Please Premier, this is a last resort request for an answer as to how we as residents of Bruny Island can be confident SeaLink is going to provide (as promised) a better service. Recent events suggest otherwise. Both Mirambeena and Bowen out of service at the same time? Queues on Bruny with doctor and pharmacist denied priority off the island? Being told to contact SeaLink in South Australia? Sure that will have a real-time result. The promise of “super ferries”, first to be delivered in September? All reference to this promise I note has been edited out of the forum, now the first super ferry “may” be delivered before end of next year with the second not even with a start date or now even how big it will be. the waste and incompetence of the Department of State Growth which now advises the job is scheduled to be completed by September! Anyone for a new Bridgewater Bridge by 2075? AT last Tassie may catch up with the rest of Australia in paying for bottle and can returns. It will only be 45 years behind South Australia if as expected it doesn’t come into effect until 2022. It only serves to show how behind the times all Tasmanian governments have been and still are. Procrastination is this government’s theme song. We used to get paid to return bottles back in the 1950s but it was discontinued. Wasn’t that a backward step. vulnerable to extreme weather like last year’s flooding. In the past when our cities faced major planning challenges, governments used education and multimedia exhibitions to involve councillors and the public in planning policies. Given the threats to our living environments, it is an approach we could well consider today as we work towards new planning solutions.
