McIlroy amazes
RORY McIlroy marked his debut at the Canadian Open by threatening to shoot a 59 as he blew away the field on the final day, and then said it was only mission halfaccomplished. McIlroy carded a stellar nine-under-par 61 on Sunday at Hamilton Golf and Country Club, matching his career-best score on the PGA Tour in a near perfect confidence-booster leading into the US Open at Pebble Beach. The four-time major champion finished on a tournament record 22under 258, while Ireland’s Shane Lowry (67) and American Webb Simpson (68) tied for second place on 15 under. Sunday’s triumph was McIlroy’s 16th on the PGA Tour.
