Guests in a rush as hotel opens doors

- HELEN KEMPTON •

HOBART’S latest boutique accommodation will open its doors tomorrow and is already booked out for the two weekends of Dark Mofo.

The city has been crying out for new visitor rooms and bookings started coming in almost as soon as Moss Hotel’s booking engine opened a month ago.

Rod Black, the general manager of Moss Hotel in Salamanca Place, said bookings were also coming in thick and fast for Hobart’s traditionally packed out New Year’s period when it not only welcomes the Sydney to Hobart competitors but also the thousands who attend the Taste of Tasmania.

Stage one, known as Moss 39, has 20 rooms while stage two — Moss 25 — will be open before Christmas and have 21 rooms.

“Potential visitors have seen us pop up and jumped on board very quickly,” Mr Black said.

“Hobart certainly needs more hotel rooms to accommodate visitors to the city and we are confident the new hotel will be very well received.”

Owned by the Behrakis family, both addresses will have the same management with separate receptions.
