Highway noise baffles

- Phill Mason Lutana Ray Wakefield Claremont

I LIVE about 1km from the Brooker Highway at Claremont near Austins Ferry Primary School. The traffic noise from the highway is incredible. It gets louder every day. I feel sorry for the people living in roads parallel to the Brooker and now they are building homes on Poimena Reserve above Hilton Rd, the traffic noise will be deafening. Will the powers that be build noise baffles along the Brooker Highway? I pity the people living near the Brighton Hub. I can hear trains coming and going at 3am and I live about 5km away.

Give arts to the regions

SINCE the demise of Tasmanian Regional Arts, regional and country areas have struggled to maintain pertinent cultural activity for a diversified demographic living in relative isolation. With Tasmania’s dispersed population, a reinvigorated regional arts program may be considered by an enlightened state or federal government, or a combination, to help deliver and maintain touring performances for audiences that are currently being severely neglected and ignored.
