Patchy Huskies look to keep momentum

- AMINA McCAULEY

THE stamina of the Hobart Huskies will be tested this weekend as they play back-toback games, says coach Mark Chivers.

After three straight losses, the Huskies corrected the ship with a solid victory against Melbourne Tigers last week, winning 102-81.

Chivers said this weekend would be a challenge, as the Huskies try to go back-to-back with a win over Kilsyth Cobras at the Kingborough Stadium tomorrow night, before taking on Ballarat away from home on Saturday night.

“It’s going to be a good challenge, we’ve never really had to do it before,” Chivers said.

“We’ve eased off a little bit, I think, over these past couple of weeks towards the end of the season — the guys are starting to get a bit weary.

“But we’ve been training all week and all year so it is what it is. We’ll try to keep them as active as possible and as healthy as possible.”

Kilsyth is fifth on the ladder while Ballarat Miners are sitting at the top.

“It’s a good test,” Chivers said. “If we can get one of these guys on the weekend then we can say that we can be competitors, but we’ll see where we go from there.

“This week we play Ballarat, who are long and athletic, we’ve got to be mindful of the group when we go up to compete against them.”

Chivers said another challenge will be choosing the team.

“We’re blessed with depth, even though it might be young depth,” he said.

“We’re able to pick the team to go away to suit the teams we’re going to play against.

“We had 16 at practice last night, and it’s going to be tough this Saturday and next weekend to decide who to take away.

“When you’ve got as many players that are gifted it’s a challenge for us as coaches to win a game and get as many people as possible into the game.”
