Wind and solar
ANTON Rohner’s article about the wind farm for Robbins Island confirms the “Ill wind” proverb (Talking Point, July 26). No development is so good it delivers only benefits, with no liabilities; no development is so terrible it delivers only liabilities, with no benefits. The Robbins Island developers seem willing to admit the liabilities and that it is their job to minimise the consequences. I’d be more enthusiastic if the development was of solar rather than wind power. Solar power seems to eliminate the bird problem very well, and the eyesore problem moderately well, and if Europeans can develop profitable solar farms at 50 degrees north, it should be easy for us to achieve at 40 degrees south.
