MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 2019 themercury.com.au SUBSCRIPTIONS 1300 696 397 A CYBERSECURITY centre that could bring more than 60 information-technology jobs to Hobart will soon meet with local interested parties to discuss the possibility of setting up shop in Hobart.

Hobart has made the shortlist of regional locations that CT4 — an Australian IT service and product company — will consider for its next cybersecurity site to expand its digital apprentice program. Set to launch this year, the centre would include regional training and employment sites with a focus on cybersecurity, software-defined networking, artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Tegan DeClark, who is customer success manager at CT4, said the centre would provide multiple opportunities for the region chosen.

“Regional Australia uniquely placed to offer is a perfect mix of worklife balance, affordable living and jobs growth,” she said.

“It [training] gives people access to the program as a way to get a foot in the door to a growing industry,” Ms DeClark said.

Science and Technology Minister Michael Ferguson said the Government would welcome discussions with any ICT organisation that wanted to grow Tasmania’s digital industry and create more local jobs.

“The Government is a strong supporter of Tasmania’s ICT industry, which is worth more than a billion dollars and directly employs almost 4000 highly skilled people,” Mr Ferguson said.

“Addressing future cybersecurity concerns will require significant investment by both private and public sectors, and the cybersecurity sector is experiencing exponential growth across the globe.”

The company will soon secure dates for a session to answer any initial questions about its plans and to establish which regions would be interested.

“We’re really looking for someone who’s going to enthusiastically welcome us to the region,” Ms De Clark said.

“We’re really looking for support from the regions and the local governments and the state governments.”

Tertiary, government and regional representatives are invited to attend an upcoming session for a discussion on CT4’ s next cybersecurity centre site in Australia.

Interested parties should contact CT4 for more details and to register. Its email address is info@ct4.com
