CANA champs descend on Hobart
NETBALLERS from all over Australia converge on Hobart today to take part in the 35th Combined Australian Netball Association Championships.
A contingent of 37 interstate, intrastate and local teams will compete in under13s, under-15s, under-17s, opens, mixed and masters competitions. The challenging six-day tournament sees teams play multiple games through the week in their respective age groups, with the ultimate goal being crowned CANA champions.
CANA has always had an inclusive approach, encouraging grassroots athletes from all over the country to participate and experience the excitement of a week-long carnival.
Not only do teams and players forge lifelong friendships from the championships, they also have the opportunity to be selected in CANA representative teams that have toured the world.
CANA chairman and Hobart local Donna Terry is excited to bring the event to Hobart. Terry has an impressive and extensive netball resume, and is passionate about providing all netball enthusiasts the chance to enjoy and improve their netball.
“I am honoured to be in a position to promote the 35th annual CANA championships this week in Hobart,” she said.
“CANA provides an opportunity for players and officials to participate in a funfilled netball championships within a positive and inclusive environment.”
The championships are being played at Hobart Netball and Sports Centre and the Governor of Tasmania, Professor the Honourable Kate Warner, will officially open the competition at today’s opening ceremony at 10am. The championships end on October 8; entry is free.
