CANA champs descend on Hobart

NETBALLERS from all over Australia converge on Hobart today to take part in the 35th Combined Australian Netball Associatio­n Championsh­ips.

A contingent of 37 interstate, intrastate and local teams will compete in under13s, under-15s, under-17s, opens, mixed and masters competitio­ns. The challengin­g six-day tournament sees teams play multiple games through the week in their respective age groups, with the ultimate goal being crowned CANA champions.

CANA has always had an inclusive approach, encouragin­g grassroots athletes from all over the country to participat­e and experience the excitement of a week-long carnival.

Not only do teams and players forge lifelong friendship­s from the championsh­ips, they also have the opportunit­y to be selected in CANA representa­tive teams that have toured the world.

CANA chairman and Hobart local Donna Terry is excited to bring the event to Hobart. Terry has an impressive and extensive netball resume, and is passionate about providing all netball enthusiast­s the chance to enjoy and improve their netball.

“I am honoured to be in a position to promote the 35th annual CANA championsh­ips this week in Hobart,” she said.

“CANA provides an opportunit­y for players and officials to participat­e in a funfilled netball championsh­ips within a positive and inclusive environmen­t.”

The championsh­ips are being played at Hobart Netball and Sports Centre and the Governor of Tasmania, Professor the Honourable Kate Warner, will officially open the competitio­n at today’s opening ceremony at 10am. The championsh­ips end on October 8; entry is free.
