Charges pile up after stab attack

- JAMES KITTO

TWO family members are in police custody after a stabbing attack left one of them hospitalised — and the search for the pair led to six others facing charges.

A 22-year-old man and a 24-year-old man who are related to one another were arrested by police at a Glenorchy property about 12.30pm yesterday following an altercation between several men at the address on Tuesday night.

A gun was also discharged “during a struggle” inside the home while the incident occurred.

One man was treated in hospital for knife wounds to his right arm.

Police searched multiple properties around greater Hobart for the pair throughout Thursday and yesterday, finding drugs and firearms at two locations.

Police said six people will face charges relating to the drugs and firearms found at those two addresses.

A 21-year-old man and a 22year-old man, both of Glenorchy, will face drug charges, and the latter also faces firearms charges.

A 32-year-old Goodwood woman also faces firearms charges, and a 26-year-old Goodwood man faces drug charges.

Two other people will be summoned on minor drug charges, police said.

Detective Acting Inspector Darren Latham said at no point was there a threat to the public during the incident in which the gun was fired.

“I’d like to reassure the public that these are isolated incidents and in this case it was people known to each other, so there was no community threat,” he said.

He credited police officers working “resolutely” to get offenders in custody.

Insp Latham said detectives were exploring charges for the arrested pair.
