State’s top pugilists to square off

Mercury (Hobart) - - NRL, BOXING -

THE Tasmanian Boxing League’s best amateur fighters will contest the state championships at the Grange Function and Meeting Centre, at Campbell Town, on Saturday.

TBL president Adrian Lovell said boxers from around Tasmania would converge to take part in a packed card, with 15 bouts and all fighters chasing gold in their respective weight divisions.

“The semi-main event will feature Glenn McKeown from Alpha Boxing Club against Dylan Snooks from the Glenorchy Boxing Club in the 71kg division,” Lovell said. “Both are highly regarded by the TBLI in this weight division.”

Glenorchy’s Thomas Barker will take on Launceston’s Alex Speed in a grudge match in the 75kg division.

“These guys have been calling each other out for some time now and what better way for this bout to take place than at the state titles,” Lovell said.

“These two fights will be highlights of the program and will have everyone out of their seats.”

Action starts at 12.30pm.
