Three cheers for spirited dancers

Mercury (Hobart) - - NEWS - AMINA MCCAULEY

EMILY Shepherd, Shakyla Lovell and Phoebe Drumm will be three of 350 dancing and cheering their way through the weekend.

The Infinite Spirit All Stars Cheer and Dance Competition will take place at the Kingborough Sports Centre tomorrow and Sunday.

There will be 11 clubs present throughout the weekend, going head-to-head to win a place in the NZCU Nationals in 2020.

Children as young as three will be competing, along with the first “all abilities” team coming from Majestic’s Cheerleading and Dance Studio, which will show those with a physical or cognitive disability that their talents and opportunities are the same.

Competition director Tamara Manning, who has been cheerleading for 19 years, said it is a fabulous sport. “It doesn't matter what your strengths are, there’s literally a spot for anyone and everyone,” she said.

The Infinite Spirit All Stars Cheer and Dance competition will also welcome a club from Mackay in far north Queensland.
