Barty and Perry vie for award
ASHLEIGH Barty and Ellyse Perry are among the leading candidates to be voted personality of the year at the AIS Sport performance awards.
Tennis world No.1 Barty and cricket star Perry are two of 12 nominees for the sport personality of the year award, with both also shortlisted for the sporting moment of the year award.
Other nominees for the sport personality of the year include cricket ace Steve Smith, NRL premiership winner James Tedesco and major golf champion Hannah Green.
Barty has been nominated for the best sporting moment for becoming the first Australian French Open singles champion in 46 years; Perry is nominated for her starring role in the Australian women’s cricket team’s Ashes win.
Green’s win at the Women’s PGA Championship, Sydney Roosters’ back-to-back NRL flags, the Boomers’ victory over the US in Melbourne and Kelsey-Lee Barber’s golden javelin throw at the world athletics championships are some of the other moments to make the moment of the year list.
