Lost doctor’s body found

- PATRICK GEE

RETIRED Westbury GP Geoffrey Trezise is being remembered as a “lovely, caring and wonderful” man who everyone in the community knew and loved.

Police found Dr Trezise’s body about 11am yesterday at a bush track at Birrallee, which is about a 15-minute drive from Westbury.

A search had been on for the 85-year-old since he was last seen by family about 8am Monday.

A police spokesman yesterday said there were no suspicious circumstances and a formal identification would be conducted and a report prepared for the Coroner.

Dr Trezise’ wife Gay told the Mercury she was grateful to everyone in the community for their support since his disappearance and said police had done a “brilliant job”.

“The community have been excellent,” she said. “It’s just a relief to know where he is. “It was very, very difficult.” Dr Trezise moved to Westbury and took over the town’s general practice 40 years ago.

Cheryl Richardson, who works at the Westbury post office, said she had known Dr Trezise since she moved to town in 1998.

She said he was a wonderful doctor and had a great sense of humour.

“I think everybody knew him and loved him,” Ms Richardson said.

Catrina McCulloch, from Whitemore, who works in Westbury said she knew Dr Trezise well.

“He was my four children’s doctor before he retired. He was lovely. Even the kids loved him. He was very easy to approach and very caring — a very well-liked man.”

Ms McCulloch said all of the community knew and loved Dr Trezise and showed concern after his disappearance.

Deloraine police Sergeant Stuart Greenwood previously told the Mercury Dr Trezise’s disappearance was out of character and unexpected and there was nothing to suggest a medical condition could have contributed to his disappearance.
