Mum says jockey ‘lucky’ to live
FORMER Tasmanian jockey Raquel Clark, 28, is stiff and sore but chatting to family by phone from hospital after falling in a race in South Australia.
Her mother Marie Beamish, from Penguin, said she watched her daughter’s race at Morphettville Racecourse on TV but missed the accident.
Her mount in Race 7, Goodgee, had clipped the heels of another horse as they slowed down after the race.
“She went straight over the top of the horse’s head and the horse landed on her,” Mrs Beamish said.
“She is very lucky. I am not sure how much the horse weighed but you would have to think about 500kg.”
