Female athletes step forward
TRACK and field is facing a public reckoning with the treatment of female athletes.
Former teen runner Mary Cain’s account last week of alleged physical and emotional abuse at the recently disbanded Nike Oregon Project is prompting more athletes to come forward. Amy Yoder Begley, a 10,000m runner, said she was told she had the “biggest butt on the starting line.” Kara Goucher’s husband said the Olympian endured “disgusting” comments by coaches. Nike is investigating.
