Brighton makes a big statement with two-shot win

BRIGHTON proved it will be one of the teams to beat this season with a two-shot win over Glenorchy Rodman in Bowls Tasmania South’s Premier Division on Saturday.

Brighton’s Ricky Limbrick played great bowls all day and had great support from Josh Tyrrell in defeating Josh Baker by 12 shots. Mick Daniels had a mighty tussle against Cam Tegg, with nothing separating them at the end. Glenorchy Rodman’s Luke Turner, ably supported by Dave Sutton, defeated Greg Fehlberg by six shots and Steven Clifford beat Grant Wakefield by four.

Kingboroug­h beat Beltana by 21 s hots. Jarrod Long recorded a 20-shot win over Shawn Leitch. Will Coad maintained his great recent form with an 11-shot win over Steve Midson and Beltana won on the other two rinks.

Mick Coppleman trailed Jason Fowler by eight shots after 12 ends but won all but one of the final nine ends to win by six. Shane Young had a great tussle with Taelyn Male. Young led by one shot after 13 ends but piled on eight shots in the next three ends to set up a match-winning lead. However, Male dug deep with Dominic Lacy on fire in the lead position and won the last five ends to go down by four shots.

Rosny Park had a 70-shot rout of Howrah. John McKibben defeated Morgan Williams by 30 shots. David Genford was ably assisted by Jenny Suttie in his 18-shot win over Graham Rowbottom. The game between Peter Bannister and John Sutcliffe was close early before Bannister pulled away in the second half to win by 18 shots. Mick Sweeney defeated Peter Jenkins by four shots.

Buckingham salvaged a draw against Dover RSL, with Isaac Maughan defeating Rick Ormerod by 11. Dover RSL won on the other three rinks, with Brad Carver defeating Alvin Cooke by eight, Roger Dale finished two in front of Don Holland and Chris Norris defeating Mick Taylor by two, but it was Taylor’s last-bowl shot that resulted in the draw.

New Norfolk defeated Sandy Bay by 10. Barry Bone defeated Ryan McCoull by 10 shots, Kerry Hill finished one shot ahead of Keghan Booth and Greg Kingston and Andrew Norris played out a draw.
