Labor too narrow

THE Labor Party is supposed to represent working-class people but is full of careerist politicians who are plucked from the same narrow and professional class of politicians. This has become problematic for their base. They should listen to the public. Labor has become a poor cousin of the Liberal Party. Ike Naqvi Tinderbox

Look after Myer parent room

WELL done to Myer for an outstanding parent room. When complimenting a staff member, I was distressed to hear of the condition in which it is left by some users. Withdrawal of facilities will result in parents needing to again use toilets to feed and change their offspring as in the 1960s. Sue Burke Lenah Valley

Barty as consultant

WHAT a fantastic year our Ashleigh Barty has had for herself and her fans. Ash has finished world No.1 and with a $6.4 million cheque for the season-ending championships. When she retires from tennis she could earn even more being a consultant for the State Government. Mark Mifsud Goodwood

Wooley approval

I’VE just read Charles Wooley’s column about Ivan Milat (TasWeekend, November 2). I remember that case. I’ve only read one worse, “Sister’s horrific act” ( Mercury, October 31). I read Charles Wooley every week. I liked the one about Bob Hawke. I am 92 and in May Shaw nursing home. Patricia Ahearne Swansea

Bus alternative

GEE, buses to be banned from Pinnacle Rd ( Mercury, November 8). I know, let’s build a cable car … simple! Steve Bailey Glenorchy

Hang in there, Nick

NICK Riewoldt hopes Tasmania will have a team in the AFL before he retires ( Mercury, November 9). Does Nick hope to continue playing as a gun forward for Richmond for another 50 years? Elizabeth Osborne North Hobart

The other brigade

THE term “anti-everything brigade” is used frequently and flippantly in Tasmania. Funnily there is never a mention of the “stomp on everyone” brigade. Rosemary Yeoland Rosny

Easier option

IT’S easier to build more prisons than deal with the drug and violence problems. Some of those vulnerable kids in prison only learn more of the same. Robert Lovell Midway Point
