Bel­lerive as­sault charges

A SE­RI­OUSLY in­jured Bel­lerive man found in a ute near the walk­ing track ad­ja­cent to Rosny Es­planade was al­legedly hit over the head with a tyre lever.

A 43-year-old NSW man was last night charged with wound­ing, as­sault, neg­li­gent driv­ing and driv­ing while dis­qual­i­fied. He was de­tained overnight and will ap­pear be­fore a Mag­is­trate to­day.

Po­lice were called to a re­port of a suspicious ve­hi­cle parked in bushes near the walk­ing track about 7am.

On ar­rival of­fi­cers found the sus­pect and vic­tim in a black Great Wall util­ity.

“One of them was a 43year-old Bel­lerive man who was found to have some rea­son­ably se­ri­ous head in­juries,” In­spec­tor Doug Ros­siter said. “His in­juries are con­sis­tent with be­ing hit over the head with a tyre lever.

“They’re se­ri­ous in­juries but they’re not life threat­en­ing.”

The man was treated at the scene be­fore be­ing taken to the Royal Ho­bart Hos­pi­tal.
