Park prevails despite wind

ROSNY Park scraped home against Kingboroug­h by eight shots in Bowls Tasmania South Women’s Division One pennant, played at Rosny Park on Thursday in difficult and blustery conditions.

Chris McGrath had a flying start against Greta Murray and led by 11 shots after the 11th end and eventually winning by 12.

Kingboroug­h won narrowly on the other two rinks. After a close game all day with the lead constantly changing, Vicki Bannister won the last two ends of the game to defeat Gaylene Ridgeway by two shots. Leonie Price picked up three fours early in the game against Ailsa Milburn to establish a good lead before Milburn fought back to level scores after the 20th end. Price won the last end and the game by two shots.

Sandy Bay won a tight encounter on Buckingham’s synthetic green by four shots. Chris Dowl overcome a fightback from June Guy to win by five. Yvonne Buckley scored 10 shots in the last four ends against Janet Rutherford to win by three. Buckingham scored two pennant points when Jeanette Lane defeated Robyn Leggett by four shots.

Howrah had a two-shot win over Claremont.

Playing in the comfort of the Howrah Indoor Centre, Sandra Hawksley was well down against Maree Morgan but played short ends after the lunch break to come from behind to win by three shots.

Rosie Geeves was too good for Jan McPherson winning by 12 shots. Claremont’s Joy Voss continued her good recent form to defeat Charon Foster by 13 shots.

Sorell was at home to Brighton and won by 16 shots. The win was set up by Janet Cowen who defeated Judy Williams.

It was Beth Connell’s first game in Division One and she played very consistent lead bowls all day. With Monica Lovell also in superb touch, Cowen went on to defeat Williams by 22 shots. With Gwen Scott leading well, Fay Gardner defeated Val Lukasek by three. Sue Grant picked up two points for Brighton when she defeated Shirley Hay by nine.

Dover RSL secured a thrilling six-shot away win over Orford. Sharon Delaney defeated Pauline Sage by six shots. Carol Bannister started well against Sally Giblin and led by nine shots after five ends eventually winning by four.

Orford won on the other rink with Ros Cowle defeating Sheryl Phillips by four shots.
