Protests turn deadly
ONE person has been killed in the Iranian city of Sirjan during protests over petrol rationing and price hikes, the Iranian ISNA news agency reports.
The Government announced on Friday that the price of a litre of regular petrol would increase to 15,000 rials ($A0.66) from 10,000 rials ($A0.44) and the monthly ration for each private car was set at 60 litres. The measure sparked fury in the country.
“One person was killed in Sirjan but ... we are investigating whether he was killed by the security forces who were trying to bring back calm to the city,” local official Mohammad Mahmoudabadi said.
