Draconian law

Mercury (Hobart) - - LETTERS -

THE state Liberals have tabled an antiprotest Bill in parliament which would fine or imprison any members of the public from exercising their democratic right to protest. We are living in a democracy, or so I thought, where everyone has the right to peacefully gather and be heard, not living in a third world military dictatorship or a communist bloc, so how can they possibly justify this draconian action? If the community were consulted by the government in a transparent and rational fashion before enacting any new legislation, there would probably be no need to demonstrate in the first place.
