Amazon in new form of delivery

Mercury (Hobart) - - BUSINESS -

AMAZON is rolling out parcel lockers and a new click-andcollect service.

The US online retail giant will operate parcel lockers in various newsagents, Commonwealth Bank outlets and Stockland shopping centres from today.

Select newsagents will also provide a click-and-collect service, dubbed Amazon Counter, where goods purchased from Amazon’s Australian site can be collected. Shoppers will have three days to pick up items from lockers and two weeks from newsagents.

The move by Amazon to have customers collect their purchases comes as the retail sector struggles to make the economics of home delivery work. Online shoppers also complain goods are delivered at inconvenient times.

Amazon Hub director Patrick Supanc said the new collection services would give customers more flexibility and control. He said Amazon was looking to partner with other businesses to host lockers.
