Cameron at home among Magpies flock

- LAUREN WOOD

DARCY Cameron is without a fixed address for now but the Collingwood recruit knows he will have some hot competition on his hands.

The 24-year-old was traded to the Holden Centre from Sydney in the recent trade period and yesterday donned black and white for the first time.

He said he had opted to spend the last few weeks at home in Albany, in southern Western Australia, and as such was yet to sort out the finer details of becoming an official Melburnian.

“I haven’t done that (moved house) quite just yet,” Cameron smiled.

“I spent (the break) with the family which was good. With all this happening, I just wanted to be close to home.

“(I’m living with) a couple of mates in Kew at the moment, it’s good.” As for what he is most looking forward to about living in Melbourne, Cameron admitted he is ready to “take it as it comes”.

“The longest stint I’ve ever had here is about a week,” he said.

There was no time to settle in yesterday, with the Magpies put through a twohour session in warm conditions.

Only first to fourth-year players were expected to train, with skipper Scott Pendlebury, American tall Mason Cox and Chris Mayne among those to take part in running and match drills.

“It’s good to see him Day 1. The boys got a bit of a spark out of it,” Cameron said of the captain. He’s been very welcoming and it’s good to see him out there.”

Delisted defender Lynden Dunn ran laps as he eyes a spot on the club’s rookie list.

Cameron said it was a “pretty intense” way to start his life as a Pie, but “it was good to finally have a crack and see all the boys”.
