Court no-show over sex charges
AN arrest warrant has been issued for a 64-year-old man facing historical rape and sex allegations, who failed to show up in court yesterday.
John Donoghue is charged with one count of rape and one count of maintaining a sexual relationship with a young person.
The allegations date back to between December 1993 and December 2002 at Bridgewater.
Mr Donoghue was due to face the Hobart Magistrates Court yesterday to enter a plea, but failed to show up.
His lawyer provided the court with a medical certificate, saying he had “ongoing difficulties”.
Prosecutors are also seeking to have Mr Donoghue extradited from Queensland.
They provided a statutory declaration from Queensland Police when Mr Donoghue was first contacted upon his summons in May.
Magistrate Michael Daly issued a warrant for Mr Donoghue’s arrest.
