Hardly ‘iconic’

Mercury (Hobart) - - LETTERS -

I HAVE been involved with Launceston Heritage Not Highrise (LHNH) since its start in June this year. My representation to the Gorge Hotel development application requested that a demonstration of height and bulk using cranes be provided to enable proper consideration by ratepayers and stakeholders. I believe that glossy artist impressions are an unreliable way to present a building of this size in this location. As for the descriptions of “iconic” and “landmark” used by the proponent, even the tribunal had questions about what this actually meant. If Launceston is to have an iconic/landmark building it needs a much better presentation than that which was provided for Gorge Hotel. Victoria Wilkinson
