Buckingham pulls off hard-fought win against Howrah

BUCKINGHAM moved away from the bottom of the ladder with a hard-fought 17-shot win over Howrah in Bowls Tasmania South’s Premier Division on Saturday.

Holland recorded a 17-shot win over John Sutcliffe.

With Neil Jeffery playing outstandin­g bowls, Andrew Chamberlai­n played some great conversion shots to beat Bill Butler by eight shots.

Michael Taylor came from 13 shots down after 13 ends, winning the final eight ends to defeat Peter Jenkins by seven points.

Howrah secured two pennant points with Ross Brokate defeating Isaac Maughan by 15 shots. Glenorchy Rodman secured a comfortabl­e 12-shot win over Rosny Park.

Cam Tegg, with strong support from Ben Stearnes, defeated John McKibben by 12 shots and Josh Baker, with excellent support from Grant Allford, had Peter Bannister’s measure, winning by eight.

Kingboroug­h defeated a gallant New Norfolk by five shots at Kingboroug­h’s Indoor Centre.David McLean had a resounding 15-shot win over

Kerry Hill. McLean led by 14 shots after 12 ends, with some outstandin­g shots being played by Jarrod Long in the three position and ably supported by Tony Clark and Jason Commane.

Hill staged a mini fightback to get back within eight shots after 19 ends, only to see McLean play two massive conversion shots with his final two bowls on the last two ends to pick up three and four shots respective­ly.

New Norfolk won on the other rink, with Wayne Lampkin defeating Ryan by 14 shots.

Sandy Bay crushed Dover RSL by 40 shots. Keghan Booth defeated Chris Norris by 14 shots, Ryan McCoull beat Jarrah Allan by 13 shots, Andrew Norris defeated Roger Dale by 11 shots and Bryce Guy finished two shots in front of Brad Carver.

Brighton continued on its winning way, narrowly beating Beltana by three shots.
