Brighton beats Kingborough to go top of ladder

IN a contest for top of the ladder, Brighton finished strongly to defeat reigning premier Kingborough by six shots in Bowls Tasmania South’s Premier Division on Saturday.

With Amity Booth leading well and John Nichols playing outstanding bowls, Grant Wakefield was too strong for

Jason Fowler, winning by 12 shots. Greg Fehlberg picked up 10 shots in the final four ends to defeat Taelyn Male by two shots and Mick Daniels beat David McLean by one.

Kingborough’s only winner was Will Coad, who defeated Ricky Limbrick by nine shots.

Sandy Bay was too good for Rosny Park, winning by 17 shots. Ryan McCoull dropped a six on the third end against Mick Sweeney but fought back to win by 14 shots. Ryan Guy overcame a slow start against John McKibben to win 10 ends in a row to win by 12 shots.

Andrew Norris played well all day and was never headed in his five-shot win over David Genford. Rosny Park won on the other rink, with Peter Bannister defeating Keghan Booth by 11 shots.

Buckingham defeated Glenorchy Rodman by eight shots. With Kevin Raby and

Adam Taylor dominating up front, Michael Taylor had a comfortable eight-shot win over Steve Clifford. Andrew Chamberlain defeated Josh Baker by four shots and Isaac Maughan beat Luke Turner by three shots.

Glenorchy Rodman’s only winner for the day was Cam Tegg who defeated Don Holland by seven shots. Tegg started well and led by seven shots after five ends but scores were level at the break. Tegg won the next five ends to lead by seven shots after 16 ends and held on for a good win.

Dover RSL played on its new synthetic green for the first time and celebrated with a resounding 46-shot win over Beltana. Ricky Ormerod was too good for Barrie Cranwell, winning by 19 shots, Roger Dale defeated Steve Midson by 16 shots and Brad Carver beat Shane Young by 14. Beltana won on the other rink, with Mick Coppleman defeating Chris Norris by three shots.

New Norfolk defeated Howrah by 14 shots. Barry Bone was the architect of the win, defeating Peter Jenkins by 19 shots, Kerry Hill beat Ross Brokate by four shots and Greg Kingston finished one shot in front of John Sutcliffe. Howrah secured two pennant points, with Bill Butler defeating Wayne Lampkin by 10 shots.
