A FEW BAD DAYS

Top Tiger calm about Shield capitulation

- JAMES BRESNEHAN

TASMANIAN coach Adam Griffith says he was not angry at the Tigers’ two-day Sheffield Shield disaster against Queensland at Blundstone Arena at the weekend but will consider changes for the clash with South Australia in Hobart starting on Saturday.

After the Tigers lost 20 wickets on Friday and Saturday, Griffith took a special training session with a handful of players at Blundstone yesterday and said that “a couple of bad days” would not prompt him to wield the axe.

With the SA game Tasmania’s last before the Big Bash League takes over the domestic cricket spotlight, Griffith said it was critical to find form and rhythm for the second half of the Sheffield Shield season in the New Year.

“When you have a bad game like that it’s not about dwelling too much on the negative, it’s about dealing with what you can do to get better,” Griffith said.

“We had a training session today with a few of the boys just to work on a couple of things.

“We’ve been playing some pretty good cricket in the main before this game.

“We just had a couple of bad days.”

Griffith was pleased with the bowling of Jackson Bird and Gabe Bell early in the Bulls’ innings and unhappy with the number of catches put down.

“I’m never angry — I get frustrated,” Griffith said.

“We’d get angry if we knew they were not having a crack.

“But the boys were working their butts off and trying as hard as they can.

“So there was no point getting angry — you get disappointed and frustrated but never angry.”

Griffith will look at what worked and what didn’t against Queensland before making changes for SA.

“We like to keep as much continuity and show as much faith in the playing group as we possibly can and that’s not to say we won’t make changes,” he said.

“If we do, they will be well thought out and not taken lightly. If we win this game against South Australia that will give us two wins, probably one off where would have like to have been.

“It just means we have to play well at the back end of the season and win all four games.”
