No arrest for elusive woman

Mercury (Hobart) - - NEWS -

A MAGISTRATE has refused to issue an arrest warrant for a woman named Lady Athena Murray because prosecutors “can’t find her” at various caravan parks across the nation.

Ms Murray, 56, faces seven dishonesty charges dating to 2009 at Scamander, Sheffield, Moonah, Glenorchy, Devonport, Hobart and Airlie Beach in Queensland.

A prosecutor yesterday asked Magistrate Reg Marron to issue a warrant compelling her to attend court after four failed bids to issue a summons.

“It appears she is not resident at any address known to Centrelink,” he said. “A person purporting to be Ms Murray has been in contact several times giving addresses to various caravan parks in Australia.”

“Why would I issue a warrant if you just can’t find her?” Mr Marron said.

The matter was adjourned to a plea hearing on January 21.
