Woman pleads on exotic animal import charges
A SANDFORD woman has admitted she illegally kept a metallic skink but denies bringing an eastern water dragon to Tasmania.
Lisa Marie Lyden, 53, faced
Hobart Magistrates Court yesterday, pleading guilty to a count of taking specially protected wildlife and three of possessing specially protected wildlife without a permit dating back to March 2018. She pleaded not guilty to possessing a controlled animal brought into the state.
Magistrate Reg Marron explained she didn’t need to bring the creature into Tasmania to be guilty of the charge, simply that she had been in possession of it.
He adjourned the matter to January 21.
