Woman pleads on ex­otic an­i­mal im­port charges

A SANDFORD woman has ad­mit­ted she il­le­gally kept a metal­lic skink but de­nies bring­ing an east­ern wa­ter dragon to Tas­ma­nia.

Lisa Marie Ly­den, 53, faced

Ho­bart Mag­is­trates Court yes­ter­day, plead­ing guilty to a count of tak­ing spe­cially pro­tected wildlife and three of pos­sess­ing spe­cially pro­tected wildlife with­out a per­mit dat­ing back to March 2018. She pleaded not guilty to pos­sess­ing a con­trolled an­i­mal brought into the state.

Mag­is­trate Reg Mar­ron ex­plained she didn’t need to bring the crea­ture into Tas­ma­nia to be guilty of the charge, sim­ply that she had been in pos­ses­sion of it.

He ad­journed the matter to Jan­uary 21.
