TASWATER is still trying to get the bottom of what went wrong with Lauderdale’s water. TasWater issued a boil

water alert last month for customers in Lauderdale, Roches Beach, Acton Park and Seven Mile Beach after E. coli was detected, before tests showed the water was all clear.

Following further testing, TasWater system performance and productivity department manager Fran Smith said the water sample returned a result which, although it did not confirm E.coli, it did identify an environmental organism.

“Some of its properties are similar to E.coli but not necessarily an indicator of faecal contamination,” Ms Smith said.

“As a means of tracking down the source of the organism, we will try to replicate the conditions at the Lauderdale reservoir in an attempt to achieve a similar result.”
