Tigers just get over the line

- MATT PHILLIPS

WOMEN’S action got underway in Round 11 of Southern Touch’s Premier Division and although ladder leader Tigers got the win it was Condor that made strides in bridging the gap between their adversaries.

Tigers won both halves as Coach Bec Oliver and young gun Sam Mills led their team to a 7-5 victory. Condors displayed vast improvement however and with four of their five scores coming through Erin Batchelor and Keeghan Smith sent a message they are back in the race.

Pirates bolted out of the blocks against Sharks to record a dominant 9-1 win. Duffie sisters, Isabella and Willow, played an integral role in the win which has seen Pirates see the fruits of their labour in recent weeks.

The men’s division saw a couple of upsets, Tigers overcame Condors to register their maiden win of the season. It was a seesawing affair with both teams gridlocked at four apiece at the break.

Play continued in the same vein when it resumed until Tigers Matt Phillips and Cam Fogarty combined to score seconds before the final siren and put their team one up to triumph 9-8.

Eastern Shore Rebels registered a win against the more fancied Pirates team and with it proved the development of the fledgling club to be well on track.

With an even contribution across the park, Rebels held a narrow 4-3 advantage at the half way point. The match was fiercely contested in the second term with both teams trading blows as the Rebels held their nerve and the margin to record a 7-6 win.

Playing Coach Sam Williams led from the front scoring one and setting up numerous others to steer his team to the victory.
