Vandals may have left clue

- JESSICA HOWARD

VANDALS may have left behind a clue to their identity after causing considerably damage to the Huonville pool over the long weekend.

Huon Council posted on Facebook that the pool had been broken into on Sunday and Monday — but a starshaped pendant was found at the site, which council staff suspect may have been left behind by the vandals by mistake.

On Sunday morning, council staff found the cover of the pool pulled back, with steps and a lifeguard tower thrown in the water.

The smaller pool also had its cover support pushed into the water, along with two wheelie bins.

On Monday, staff found the cleaner’s trolley thrown down a deep pit, and graffiti was also found along the pool deck.

“Incidents like this cost significant council time and money, create stress for members of staff, and put people at risk of injury,” the council’s post stated.

“Our staff worked miracles to pull the heavy objects out of the water and make the area clean and safe so that the doors could open right on time each morning, with swimmers presumably unaware of the mammoth task that had just been completed.”

If you have any knowledge of the incident, call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 00 or the police on 131 444.
