Welcome to life in the secret society
SECRET societies have flourished through history. The Knights Templar and the Free Masons for example. It now appears we have the secret society of the Tasmanian Government where secrecy is at the forefront of many government decisions, deals and actions.
Take for example the Lake Malbena sell off of national park lands for a pittance and the refusal to make public the details of the deal. National parks are declared as such to protect the unique environment, but not when this Government decides it’s a good deal to give it away to developers.
When asked to provide detail of many recent deals under the Freedom of Information Act they provide heavily redacted pages closely resembling the hind quarters of a Zebra.
The same mindset is rife whenever the people of this state request information form this Government regarding deals they make which cause community concern. Secret societies flourish because of the secret deals made behind closed doors and which are in the interest of the individuals negotiating the deals.
Secrecy creates distrust and suspicion and is rapidly increasing due the actions and lack of accountability of this Government, one bent on defending secrecy at all cost.
