-

Hobart Hurricanes WBBL cricketer Corinne Hall is sick of trolls denigrating women in sport, so she has written and illustrated a new book, Victress, which celebrates the achievements of 35 trailblazing sportswomen including Ash Barty, Sally Pearson, Anna Meares and Ellyse Perry.

KINDNESS and women’s sport has turned out to be a runaway success for a Tasmanian cricketer.

It took all of 10 hours for WBBL cricketer turned illustrator and author Corinne Hall and her writing partner Michael Randall to be asked for more copies of their book

Victress.

Sick of the trolls denigrating women’s sport, Hobart Hurricanes player Hall teamed up with News Corp journalist Randall to celebrate the achievements of 35 sportswomen, with proceeds donated to grassroots women’s cricket projects and a charity called the Kindness Factory.

So far the book, which is now onto its second print run, is tracking to raise more than $100,000.

In addition to sketching the women, who have all paved their own way in the

Australian sporting landscape, Hall also asked the likes of Anna Meares, Dawn Fraser, Cathy Freeman and Sam Stosur to share a story of kindness.

Hall is a self-taught artist who used drawing as a means of escape from the pressures of cricket and daily life.

“The book is a thank you from me to all those who have paved the way before me and allowed my generation the opportunities in sport we have today,” Hall said.

“It’s a celebration of brave, courageous, ambitious, talented female warriors who have been trailblazers in their chosen sports.”

Randall added: “Because whether you’re a mother, daughter, sister, wife, niece … every woman is a Victress in her own unique way.”

With help from former Australian cricketer and friend Lisa Sthalekar, the book will be officially launched on Thursday – the day before Australia’s opening game of the T20 World Cup against India at the Sydney Showgrounds.
