SCHOOLS START TO SHUT ANZAC EVENTS CANCELLED MONA TO CLOSE DOORS

- HELEN KEMPTON

CORONAVIRUS has led to the cancellation of Anzac Day services across the state and David Walsh will close Mona indefinitely as Tasmania battles to contain the outbreak.

There are yet to be cases of community transmission in Tasmania but the state is ramping up measures designed to stop the virus from rapidly spreading through the community.

Two Tasmanian private schools have decided to shut their doors and the University of Tasmania has begun a staged transition to get students and staff working from home.

“We need to take every step that we possibly can to flatten the curve,” Premier Peter Gutwein said while introducing new social distancing measures.

TASMANIAN-born dancer Lily Cornish and her Dancing with the Stars partner Christian Wilkins are being tested to see if they have coronavirus.

Dancing with the Stars confirmed after last night’s show that the pair had gone into quarantine. Christian Wilkins is the son of Richard Wilkins who was diagnosed with the virus at the weekend. Lily is the daughter of former newsreader and Liberal candidate for Rosevears Jo Palmer.

“Christian Wilkins was not aware of his father’s positive diagnoses of the coronavirus until after tonight’s Dancing with the Stars episode,” the show’s producers said on social media last night.

“Although Christian does not believe he has been exposed, he along with this dance partner Lily Cornish have self-isolated and will be testing first thing in the morning.

“A number of precautions had already been put in place for Sunday’s show to minimise any potential exposure or spread of the virus, including promoting good hygiene practices backstage and in studio and filming without a studio audience.”
